 Today you will have 10 minutes or so to work on your presentations, then we will look at chapter 5 (page 29) in your textbooks.

Questions to answer as we read

1) Who was Christopher Columbus? When did he sail across the ocean?

2) What activities preoccupied Columbus as he explored the Americas?

3) What is colonization?

4) How did the arrival of European settles affect Native American societies?

5) Why did European settlers increase their demand for enslaved Africans?

6) What was the Columbian Exchange?

7) Discuss the Treaty of Tordesillas.

8) What do you think were three of the most important long-term consequences of Columbus's encounters in the Americas?

Think about - conquering and claiming land; forced labor of Native Americans and Africans' the Columbian Exchange.

9) Look at the Point and Counterpoint (on page 34) about Christopher Columbus. Which side of the argument do you agree with? Why?
